Planning a wedding involves countless details, and knowing when to send out your wedding stationery can be overwhelming. From save the dates to invitations, getting the timing right is crucial to ensure everything goes smoothly!
This is your ultimate wedding stationery timeline guide, taking all the guesswork out of the guest work.
Wedding Stationery Timeline: When To Send and How To Plan
Save The Dates
12 months in advance
Save the dates are a crucial first step in your wedding planning process. For UK weddings, it's best to send these out about 12 months in advance.
This gives your guests ample time to mark their calendars and make any necessary travel arrangements.
For destination weddings, consider sending save the dates up to 18 months ahead of time.
Wedding Invitations
4-6 months in advance
Once your save the dates are out, the next big task is the wedding invitations. Aim to send your invitations 4-6 months before the wedding.
If you haven't sent save the dates, consider sending your invitations a smidge sooner to give your guests more notice.
RSVP Deadlines
At least 6 weeks in advance
A clear RSVP deadline is essential for organising your wedding. Aim for at least 6 weeks before your big day.
If your venue or caterers have a final-numbers deadline, pad it by 2 weeks so you've got time to chase late replies and finalise your table plan.
On The Day Stationery
No later than 4 weeks in advance
Don't forget about your on the day stationery! This includes items like menus, place cards, and your order of service booklets.
Finalise your order no later than 4 weeks before your wedding.
Thank You Cards
Aim for up to 3 months after
Thank you cards are a wonderful finishing touch that allows you a moment to reflect and show gratitude to the people who made your day special.
Within 3 months is a good aim, but late is always better than never.
How Soon Do I Need to Order My Wedding Stationery?
Before we dive in, a quick note that these timescales are specific to orders from The Design Shop.
If you're opting for bespoke-designed stationery, be sure to start the process earlier. Custom designs often require more time for collaboration, revisions, and printing. Add on at least another 2 weeks to ensure we can work together to create your dream designs!
Save The Dates
13-14 months before
To ensure your save the dates arrive on time, order them at least 6 weeks before you plan to send them out. This gives you ample time to review proofs, request any changes, and receive the final product.
Wedding Invitations
6-8 months before
For wedding invitations, it's a good idea to place your order 6-8 months before your wedding date. This allows enough time for design, printing, and any necessary revisions.
Top Tip: Guest address printing can be an absolute life (and time) saver.
On The Day Stationery
No later than 6 weeks before
Aim to finalise your on-the-day stationery around 6 weeks before the wedding. Your final details and payment will be due 4 weeks before your wedding.
Thank You Cards
As soon as you can
If you're sticking with a matching design without a wedding photo, consider ordering these along with your other stationery. If you're using a photograph, most photographers will give you a small set of sneak peek images with a quick turnaround.
