Travel Themed Wedding Stationery: Bringing Your Favourite Places To Your Best Day Yet

| Becky Smithbury

The short answer: Travel-themed wedding stationery doesn't have to mean clichéd passports and paper planes. Six richer ideas: map-and-monogram bespoke designs nodding to your favourite places, flora and fruits from special destinations (think Lemon Grove for the Amalfi Coast), coastal motifs with the Shoreline Collection, mountain illustrations with Mountain Pines, custom illustrated maps of your engagement spot, and tables named after your favourite cities or hikes.

First, a quick hello- I'm Becky and Hawthorne and Ivory is my wedding stationery design studio. I make colourful, fun-loving save the dates, invitations, on the day pieces (menus, place cards, signage), guest books and thank you cards for UK couples. Bespoke travel-themed projects are some of my favourites.

Dreaming of a wedding that captures your wanderlust? Travel themed wedding stationery can transform your event into an unforgettable adventure.

When it comes to your stationery, rather than relying on clichéd airmail invitations and paper planes… why not explore unique ways to incorporate your favourite destinations and experiences into your big day?

In this post, I'll share six creative ideas to inspire your wedding stationery, bringing your love for travel to life.

6 Travel Themed Wedding Stationery Ideas:

1. Stamp Your Passport

Imagine taking your guests on a tour of the places that have special meaning to you as a couple. Use your save the dates and wedding invitations to showcase maps, landmarks, and other special cultural touches.

This wonderful bespoke project really took this idea and ran with it… they sent me a list of all of their most treasured places and the elements they'd like to represent and we included so many different elements.

Like an alpaca monogram to represent the pair's travels to South America… an image of the Taj Mahal on their details card to commemorate the trip they took to India… Mountain illustrations, Everest and the Dolomites, on their envelopes liners and RSVP cards… So many special touches to really celebrate this globe-trotting couple and their journey so far.

For the big day… naming your tables after your favourite destinations could really add a whole new layer of personalisation and evoke cherished memories of your travels.

2. Flora, Fauna and Fruits

Nature enthusiasts can draw inspiration from the natural beauty found in different regions. Think about incorporating native plants, animals, or fruits from your favourite destinations into your wedding stationery. Imagine lush tropical leaves from Hawaii, delicate cherry blossoms from Japan, or the sun-soaked lemon groves of the Amalfi Coast captured beautifully in my Lemon Grove Collection.

3. Capture the Coastline

For those with a love of the sea, my Shoreline Collection offers endless possibilities. Picture serene beach scenes, enchanting lighthouses, and delicate seashell motifs adorning your wedding invitations. Nautical elements like anchors, ropes, and compasses can add a charming maritime touch.

Choose a colour palette inspired by the ocean- think blues, whites, and sandy neutrals… Coastal themes are perfect for beach weddings or any couple who adores the sea.

4. Mountain Trails

The more intrepid explorers among us can reflect the majesty and tranquillity of their favourite peaks in their wedding stationery. Think sweeping vistas, snow-capped mountains, and rustic log cabins. Use rich, earthy tones like forest greens, deep browns, and rustic touches of kraft card to capture the essence of the great outdoors.

Illustrations of mountain ranges or trails can adorn your invitations, while textured paper can evoke the rugged terrain and remind everyone of topographical maps.

If you got engaged while hiking, consider a custom map of the trail on your save the date cards. This theme is ideal for couples who find peace and inspiration in the mountains. Or for your on the day touches, think about tables named after your favourite mountains and hikes!

5. Venue Illustrations

For destination weddings, why not feature an illustration of your wedding venue on your stationery? This gives your guests a sneak peek of the beautiful location where you'll be saying "I do." Whether it's a picturesque vineyard in Tuscany, a quaint chapel in the English countryside, or a luxurious resort in Bali… an illustration adds a personal and bespoke touch. Use these illustrations across all your stationery, from invitations to welcome signs. This not only ties your theme together but also creates a cohesive visual story for your wedding.

6. Get Wordy

Incorporating linkinto your stationery can create an inviting atmosphere that really resonates with the spirit of adventure. Phrases like "The journey is the destination" or "Not all who wander are lost" can be beautifully integrated into your save the dates, invitations, or even on signage at your wedding.

Choosing quotes that reflect your personal experiences not only inspires, but also adds depth to your celebration. Pair these sentiments with charming typography to make them stand out, creating an intimate reflection of your shared passion for exploring the world out there.
